I’m a huge fan of such kind of films. To me, stop-action animation is so magical and tickles my fancy. It looks like toys coming alive! and it inspires me more than any other big budget animated film, because it’s tangible and real. Once you gain a sense of what it takes to make just a few moments of stop-motion animation, one frame at a time, you can really appreciate the enormity of a truly awesome feature-length stop-motion film ❤
Here are some of my personal favorite films (and I would love to know yours, too):
Henry Selick’s Coraline (2009)
An adventurous girl finds another world that is a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets.
Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride (2005)
When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her.
Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Jack Skellington, king of Halloweentown, discovers Christmas Town, but doesn’t quite understand the concept.
Wallace and Gromit – The Curse of the Were – Rabbit (2005)
Wallace and his loyal dog, Gromit, set out to discover the mystery behind the garden sabotage that plagues their village and threatens the annual giant vegetable growing contest.
Shaun the Sheep (2007)
Shaun is a sheep who doesn’t follow the flock – in fact, he leads them into all sorts of scrapes and scraps, turning peace in the valley into mayhem in the meadow. Shaun and his pals run rings around their poor sheepdog Bitzer, as he tries to stop the Farmer finding out what’s going on behind his back. Every day brings a new adventure for Shaun.
TV series since 1986. Pingu is a clay penguin who is very mischievous and playful. He lives in the arctic where he plays with his family and his friend the seal. His signature sound is something like “mweep mweep”.
Doggy Poo (2004)
A Korean touching story of nature’s most unlikely hero. A cute “Doggy Poo”…yes, poop can be cute! Once upon a time, a little doggy poo lived on the side of a road. He felt all alone in the world. He believed that nobody needed him for anything, and that he had no purpose in life. If only Doggy Poo had a reason for being, then he wouldn’t give up on his dream to be useful to the world. One day, Doggy Poo meets a lovely dandelion sprout. Will she explain his purpose in life? Will she help make his dream come true?
